Today, maybe more than ever, let values, contribution and purpose, together, be your North Star. Let your North Star set your Bearing! (yep, I just made that connection). And really it's because the way you bear up under today’s strain will really depend on those three things!

Life is fragile, but, you don’t have to be!

What I mean by that is that things happen to us, to all of us, that we don’t expect. Sometimes those things end a life unexpectedly; Covid-19 for instance. Or, just being out of the house and something happens that changes one or more lives forever. Life is fragile.

I find it interesting that we as a society still value, very highly, command and control in organizations in the form of the heroic individual leader. Exercising power through hierarchy and valuing individual power, so highly, based on rank, feels like an old concept from another time, yet it still seems highly valued today.

If you ever really want to build a “real team” on purpose, you will have to give them space!

A real team needs to build their own purpose, share information and communicate in ways not generally the norm in most businesses these days and they need to figure out how they work best together. As the senior leader commissioning this team, give them the space to do these things!

For me, I still don’t get it when people don’t want to do things together or contribute. I feel a little lost, uneasy and often wonder why not? I am predisposed to be part of a team and contribute to “others”. When I am in situations where people are resistant to being supportive of the collective to achieve a specific goal, I feel at a bit of a loss.
