We've all got somewhere to get to that isn't necessarily here... so how do we get moving?
We start. And, I know that isn’t always easy to do even though it can be simple to do.
When we think of moving forward, we might choose to do something we perceive is going to get us “dirty” or take some effort, similar to what happens to me gardening, mountain biking, cleaning the garage or going for a long run!
Sometimes it ends up that the best part of putting that effort in and getting dirty could be the warm shower after! Only later, after we reflect a bit, do we actually see we’ve moved forward!
Often with clients we get deep into the depths of muddy thinking and get dirty. Then we generate some insight and start to achieve some clarity. The new clarity kick starts forward motion, moving my client toward that place that isn’t here!
Armed with that new clarity and some new hope, we try something we aren't sure about. We do it carefully. We make sure we stay clean and we inch forward. That’s O.K.! In fact, that’s perfect. It’s progress!
The funny thing is, that as we get better at “it” we often do it faster with a little less care and get better results. And that’s because we probably stop worrying about it so much!
Letting go of that worry is actually a breakthrough that comes with trusting ourselves a little more than when we started.
So, whether we dive in or approach it more cautiously, we just have to start, in order to get somewhere new and not worry so much about getting dirty in the process!
