“Just do it!” This now famous saying has been around for decades! How many times have you said or thought, “Oh, I wish I could just do it!” When someone then asks (or you tell yourself a story) about what’s holding you back you might come up with:
It’s not the right time for me now
I just have to look into it a bit more
That’s not really me
Well, folks think that would be silly
I can’t actually do it, I just like to think about doing it
Do any of those come up for you? Do you have others?
What could it mean to you and your future if you stepped up and “just did it?”, whatever it is.
Not doing it, is, for most of us, our way to resist change. Making any of the above statements is a way for us to diminish some of the things that we really want to try, or have or be, so that we don’t have to change! Change can be daunting, even scary. However, you end up possibly missing out on some of your potential!
If you do this enough it becomes the way you look at the world and the way you keep yourself in your comfort zone. It’s the way you hold back on your full potential!
Sometimes it’s because you really don’t know how. Sometimes it is just false evidence appearing real (f.e.a.r.). Sometimes it’s about wondering what happens if you are successful. Each time this happens it’s about one more opportunity to explore, lost. It’s one more time you’ve gone back into your comfort zone.
I know what I’m talking about because I have a number of challenges that could have had me sidelined for the past 20 years.
What would it mean for you to try something new and succeed? Something new could be something really small too. I work with my clients to make 1 degree shifts in things they do - small changes. Over time those small changes add up! Over time you end up doing things you never thought possible. Over time small shifts produce big results! Explore your potential, make a small shift and see how it goes! Just do it now!
